Various social media outlets are always competing to stay relevant and overtake one another. With Facebook, Twitter, and blogging sites taking off, how does a site like MySpace stay relevant?

Predating Twitter and sites such as Digg, MySpace was once the epicenter of social media. I remember creating my page on MySpace my freshman year in high school, before I had even heard of MySpace.

MySpace has announced Any Marcus will take over the company's entertainment efforts. Since the explosion of Facebook and Twitter, MySpace has morphed into a more entertainment and music driven site.

Last year, the site hosted a digital and virtual version of tryouts for Glee, a popular television series. Marcus now has his sites on securing a partnership with American Idol, which would allow contestants to audition virtually for the show through MySpace.

It will be interesting to see if MySpace can remain relevant in today's social media world.
